A Quiet Place for a Vacation

The Cabin is located with the Cole House next to a pond at 1700 feet on a quiet picturesque dead-end dirt road just below (one and one-half miles) the Stratton Mountain ski resort. Tennis, golf, horseback riding, and concerts at an outdoor shell are summertime features at the resort.

Rustic & Comfortable

Warm and friendly, this is a cozy dwelling, comfortably furnished with everything provided for easy housekeeping, including bedding, dishes, cutlery and utensils. Everything is provided except sheets, pillowcases and towels.

The one-person stand-up kitchen has a stainless steel sink, dishwasher, electric range, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster and a refrigerator. The log living room, with a view of the pond, is cheered by a brick fireplace with an Avalon fireplace insert. Gas heat is available when needed. For dining, there is a locally made free form pine slab table.

There are two bathrooms in the cabin, one in the master bedroom and one in back of the fireplace with a shower big enough to hold two people and a sink. Across from the shower is a lavatory. In the hallway leading from the living area to the master bedroom are two double-sized bunks. The master bedroom has a Queen sized bed and its own bath with shower. Over the living room, up a ship’s stairs, is a loft split up by a pine paneled wall into two rooms, each with a double bed and a special very small room for a young child with its own Alice in Wonderland sized door.

A Private Pond

Wrapping around the outside of the cabin is a sun deck facing the pond. The 3/4 acre pond offers refreshing swimming and recreational (catch and return) trout fishing. It is both brook and spring fed. A rowboat is provided for fun. The grassy banks of the pond provide safe and easy entry into the water and is a great place to enjoy the sun on a hot day. A lovely screened gazebo graces the far shore. The pond is shared by the Cole House, another house I own across the way, but otherwise is private. A Weber grill is provided off the deck for outdoor cooking.

Lots to Do Nearby

The Long Trail winds it way through the back of Stratton Mountain, for a good days hike. From the cabin, it is a pleasant hike to a waterfall at Pikes Falls, a beautiful rocky place for diving, sun bathing or hiking as well as a cool dip. The water is very cold even in the late August. Within a few miles, up at the Stratton ski area or down in the valley, are good eating places, country auctions, fairs, antiques and within a half an hour's drive, concerts and summer theatre in Weston and Dorset. Manchester is outlet store heaven for the shoppers in your group.

A Great Place to Unwind

There is FM radio and Satellite TV (DSS). All the networks including ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and PBS as well as many cable and movie channels are available. Local stores rent movies you can play on the VCR or DVD player. On your own phone, 802-874-4283, unlimited local calls may be made. You must charge long distance, in or out of state, to you credit card or home phone.
