A Quiet Place for a Vacation

The Cabin is located with the Cole House next to a pond at 1700 feet on a quiet picturesque dead-end dirt road just below (one and one-half miles) the Stratton Mountain ski resort. Tennis, golf, horseback riding, and concerts at an outdoor shell are summertime features at the resort.

Rustic & Comfortable

Warm and friendly, this is a cozy dwelling. Many people refer to it as a hobbit house or call it boat-like because the small space is very efficiently utilized. It is comfortably furnished with everything provided for easy housekeeping, including bedding, dishes, cutlery and utensils. Everything is provided except sheets, pillowcases and towels.

The one-person stand-up kitchen has a stainless steel sink, dishwasher, electric range, coffee maker, microwave, toaster and a refrigerator. The log living room, with a view of the pond, is cheered by a brick fireplace with an Avalon fireplace insert. Gas heat is available when needed. For dining, there is a locally made free form pine slab table.

There are two bathrooms in the cabin, one in the master bedroom with a shower and a second split bathroom with a toilet in one room and across from it, an oversized shower room with a sink.

There are two sleeping areas in the Cabin. There is a master bedroom with a Queen sized bed and its own bath with shower and two double-sized bunks in the area leading from the living room to the master bedroom.

Upstairs is a play space.

A Private Pond

Wrapping around the outside of the cabin is a sun deck facing the pond. The 3/4 acre pond offers refreshing swimming and recreational (catch and return) trout fishing. It is both brook and spring fed. A rowboat is provided for fun. The grassy banks of the pond provide safe and easy entry into the water and is a great place to enjoy the sun on a hot day. A lovely screened gazebo graces the far shore. The pond is shared by the Cole House, another house, I own across the way, but otherwise is private. A Weber grill is provided off the deck for grilling.

Lots to Do Nearby

The Long Trail winds it way through the back of Stratton Mountain, for a good day hike. From the cabin, it is a pleasant hike or a short drive to a waterfall at Pikes Falls, a beautiful rocky place for diving, sun bathing or hiking as well as a cool dip. The water is very cold even in the late August. Within a few miles, up at the Stratton ski area or down in the valley, are good eating places, country auctions, fairs, antiques and within a half an hour's drive, concerts and summer theatre in Weston and Dorset. Manchester is outlet store heaven for the shoppers in your group.

A Great Place to Unwind
