Cole Cabin

A Quiet Place for a Vacation
The Cole Cabin is located on a dead-end dirt road off of the Pikes Falls Road just below the Stratton Mountain ski area and only a short seven minute drive away. This is a warm, friendly, and cozy dwelling that some guests refer to as a hobbit house.

The Cole Cabin in Stratton is available for rental for the ’24-’25 ski season.

The Cole Cabin was built out of logs cut down with hand saws the old fashioned way and then transported to the cabin site with horses, where they were placed on top each other and chinked.

Private and quiet, the side of the Cabin that faces the pond has a patio that is used in the Summer for barbecuing and general outdoor relaxation. A propane fired grill, picnic table with umbrella and Adirondack style chairs are provided. It is a lovely spot for enjoying the day.

In the summertime, the cabin is ideal for couples and families with a couple of young children. Smoking is not permitted.

Lots to Do Nearby
It is a pleasant hike or a short drive from the cabin to a waterfall called Pikes Falls, a beautiful rocky place for swimming, diving, sun bathing or hiking. The water is very cold even on the hottest days. Watch a video of Pikes Falls.

On the backside of the property is Styles brook which runs down from Stratton Mountain.  Watch a video about Styles Brook.Check out this link for things to do in the area

Inside the Cabin
The Cabin is comfortably furnished with bedding, linens and towels, dishes, cutlery and utensils. Everything is provided including a wired access point that provides wireless or wired high-speed internet service. There is also a DVD player and cable TV.

Note for our summer guests: The Cole Cabin does not have air conditioning, but is rather like an old fashioned summer place (though it is a year-round insulated house), and has fans including a bedroom ceiling fan, but no air conditioning, either local (window units) or whole house. The evenings in Vermont tend to drop down into the 50s or low 60s during the summer.

The one-person stand-up kitchen has a stainless steel sink, dishwasher, new electric smooth-top range (not shown in the video), coffee maker, microwave, toaster and a refrigerator. The log living room has a brick fireplace with an Avalon wood-burning fireplace insert. Gas heat is available when needed. For dining, there is a locally made free form pine slab table.

There are two bathrooms: one in the master bedroom with a shower, sink and a toilet. There is also a second split bathroom with a toilet in one room and across the hall from it, an oversized shower room with a sink.

Sleeping areas or bedrooms on the first floor: The master bedroom has a queen-sized bed, ceiling fan and its own bath with shower. There is also a sleeping nook with two double-sized bunk beds in the area between the living room and the master bedroom.

Upstairs is a play/get-away/storage space with an Alice-in-Wonderland style children’s play space.

A Private Pond
The Cabin is a few steps from a spring-fed 3/4 acre private country pond. The pond is a great place to hang out on a hot day and go for a swim or for children to search for salamanders and frogs.  A rowboat is provided. The grassy banks of the pond provide safe and easy entry into the water for young children. A screened gazebo graces the far shore. The pond is shared by the Cole House and the owners, but otherwise is private.
